The Romanian Railway Safety Authority - ASFR is the body that fulfills the duties of the safety authority in Romania, in accordance with OUG no. 73/2019 regarding railway safety.

Between 08 and 09 May 2024, the first safety surveillance action carried out jointly by the national safety authorities from Bulgaria and Romania, respectively the Railway Administration Executive Agency (RAEA) and the Romanian Railway Safety Authority - ASFR, took place in the joint stations of Ruse and Vidin border.

June 27, 2023

On June 27, 2023, the Cooperation Agreement was signed in Lille between the Romanian Railway Safety Authority (ASFR) represented by Mr. Petru BOGDAN - Director General and the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) represented by Mr. Josef DOPPELBAUER - Executive Director. The agreement was concluded regarding the fulfillment of the Agency's tasks regarding single safety certificates, vehicle and type authorizations of railway vehicles.

In Romania's Official Monitor no. 748 of August 17, 2023, the Order of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure no. 1,471 of August 7, 2023 regarding the approval of tariffs for the provision of specific activities carried out by the Romanian Railway Safety Authority - ASFR. The order applies starting from August 17, 2023.

In accordance with Art. 1 of HG no. 527/2023 regarding the establishment of measures to ensure the application of Regulation (EU) 2021/782 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 29, 2021 regarding the rights and obligations of passengers in rail transport, ASFR is designated as the body responsible for the application and supervision of compliance with the Regulation (EU ) 2021/782 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 29, 2021 regarding the rights and obligations of passengers in rail transport.

The European Union Agency for Railways has renewed the reference number of the Romanian Railway Safety Authority - ASFR as a certification body for the entities responsible for the maintenance of railway vehicles; the new reference number is RO/30/0021/0001, valid from 15.06.2021-15.06.2026.
